Focus on raised stitches

April 1, 2026

With the muscari pattern I wanted to mimic the small florets by creating a raised oval effect so they stood out away from the fabric slightly more than the rest of the stitching.

There are a few different stitches that can give this effect, and each one will give a lightly different look to your finished piece.

  • layered lazy daisy - you build up little loops lying on top and inside of each other

  • granitos - short satin stitches, one you have the base oval shape, just keep on adding stitches until it is as raised as far as you need

  • bullion knots - this is probably my least favourite stitch, but it may be one you love, this is probably the stitch you'd pick if you wanted a traditional embroidery choice.
